Things To Consider When Choosing An E-liquid
You’ve taken your first big leap into the vaping world and you have the perfect vaping starter kit for you. But now you have to choose the right e-liquid and there seems so many to choose from! How do you decide which is right for you?
Luckily this handy guide will steer you through all the decisions you have to make and help you make the right decision for you. As you become more experienced, you’ll be ordering you e-liquid with your eyes closed, but for now let’s take a look at things you have to consider when starting out.
Selecting an E-liquid Flavour
Flavour of your e-liquid is one of the most important decisions you will make as if you don’t like it, it won’t get used. These day e-liquids come in just about any flavour you can think of including; fresh pressed fruity flavours, a range of desert flavours, popular foods, alcohol inspired flavours and of course a range of tobacco blends.
When choosing your first e-liquid flavour, start with one you’re sure you’ll like then when you’ve built up a few, you can start getting more adventurous. Consider requesting a sample pack from your online retailer or go in-store to sample a few flavours before you buy.
What About Nicotine Strength?
Choosing the right nicotine strength for you will depend on a few things. Getting the right strength is essential as if it is too weak, you’ll over vape to compensate and too much may give you a headache. Consider starting with a medium strength and adjust accordingly.
- Low strength. 6mg and below. This is best for light smokers who may go through half a pack a day or less.
- Medium strength. 9mg to 16mg. Choose this strength if you use half a pack to one pack of cigarettes a day.
- High strength. Good for heavy chain smokers.
Of course if you have previously never smoked you can choose from a range of nicotine free alternatives.
PG and VG – What is It and Which is Best?
The base solutions in e-liquids can be a combination of PG (Propylene Glycol) and VG (Vegetable Glycerol) or one or the other. More PG produces a better flavour but a weaker vapour and more VG produces a slightly sweeter taste, which mutes the flavour slightly but produces lots of vapour.
You can find e-liquid that is all PG based, all VG based or a combination of both in varying ratios. A poular PG to VG ratio and a good place to start is 40:60 which users say produces a good amount of flavour and vapour.
Keep in mind that it is possible to be allergic to PG so if you find yourself getting hives, itching a lot or having restricted breathing while using pure PG or a PG mix, you might need to change to a pure VG blend or at least a higher ratio of VG.
