If you love to switch up the e-liquid flavour in your tank, you may have experienced the taste of the previous e-liquid still lurking about after changing to a new flavour. This will particularly be true of the dominant flavours like; coffee, tobacco, menthol, cinnamon, liquorice etc.

It’s best to give your tank a rinse each time you change flavours to prevent this and even give it a deep clean every few months. This guide will take you through your tank cleaning options from easy and quick, to more advanced methods.

      1. The Quick Rinse

The easiest and most basic way to clean your tank, first you need to dis-assemble your tank into as many pieces as possible. Make sure you remove the O-rings as this is where much gunk and old flavour gets trapped. Coil heads should be removed and if still in good condition can be cleaned and re-used.

Fill a bowl with hot water and place all the pieces of the tank inside. Let them sit until the water cools down and give them one last rinse under a tap. Use a toothbrush if needed to remove any ingrained gunk. Pat dry with paper towels and let sit until completely dried out.

     2. Soak in PG For a Deeper Clean

Fill up a cup or bowl with unflavoured PG. Let it soak for a good amount of time then stand it on a napkin to drip dry. This method is a great way to get rid of an old e-liquid flavour.

     3. Vinegar, Baking Soda or Ethanol

If you don’t have some spare unflavoured PG floating around the house, there are various substances you may already have in your kitchen that could work. Vinegar is highly acidic and a great cleaning agent, but must be thoroughly rinsed once used to eradicate the smell.

Baking soda or ethanol mixed with water can also be used to get your tank sparkling again, but of course thoroughly rinse after use.

     4. Soapy Water Or Lemon Juice With Water

Soapy water will be very effective at cleaning old gunk off the tank and a good scrub with a toothbrush will make this method even more effective. Lemon juice and water is also great at removing ground in dirt. Completely rinse the parts multiple times afterwards, to eradicate any lingering smell.

     5. The Ultrasonic Cleaner – For The Professionals

Originally built to clean jewelry and precious metals, vapers all over the world now use these to clean their atomizers. If you’re serious about vaping, this piece of kit should be on your next Christmas list as it’ll save you a lot of time and effort.

Now not only made for jewelry, companies like Coil Master make them specifically for vapers. You don’t have to get one specifically for vaping; any will do and are a great investment if you have a lot of equipment.

If the flavour of your e-liquid still doesn’t improve after cleaning the tank, the next place to check is the coil. It may need a good clean or changing completely.
